Tennesseans for Choice in Transition.

After 8 years of dynamic leadership and service, Elizabeth Peele is stepping down as President of the Board of TFC. "Liz" not only helped to organize TFC back in 1982, but has served on its board during its entire period of existence. As most of you are already aware, Liz has been the major source of energy in keeping TFC going, in setting its agenda, in activating its members, and in organizing each activity. Her leadership will be sorely missed, but thankfully she will continue to serve on the board. Fortunately for TFC, the highly capable Ellen Smith will be replacing Liz as president.

Stepping down from the board are Jack Goodwin and Jan Thompson. Jack has been on the board since the beginning of TFC and has been a stalwart fund-raiser, as well as manager of the mailing list. Jan has served just as long, both in the publicity and newsletter mailing. Both will be truly missed! Many thanks for years of faithful service to TFC! We welcome 5 new members to the board, Rebecca Gregor, Dev Joslin, Harriet Joslin, Carol Minarick, and Janis Williams. In addition to Elizabeth Peele and Ellen Smith, remaining on the board are Peggy Meier, David Reister, Bob Stone, and Linda Gilpin.

We are also losing our dedicated and talented newsletter editor, Stephanie McElhaney, who has served so well for the past 6 years. Our newsletter has become well-known even outside of this region as a source of information on choice issues. Stephanie unfortunately will be moving away from the Oak Ridge area. She will be replaced by Dev Joslin.

Options Being Considered for Future Direction of TFC.

With Elizabeth Peelle stepping down as president, other members of the board (Jack Goodwin, Jan Thompson) stepping down, and our talented newsletter editor, Stephanie McElhaney, leaving the area, this truly is a period of transition for TFC. The board is considering the following 3 options.

1) Activate the current membership and enlist new leadership in order to undertake the active program of education and advocacy we have had in the past.

2) Continue the same types of activities as in the past, but reduce the level of activity. Meetings and newsletter would continue but with less frequency. One primary goal would be to maintain communication at a level such that the membership could be activated quickly to respond to crises.

3) Form partnerships with other related groups to broaden our scope into new areas, such as sex education issues, access to health care, advocacy related to Families First program, etc.
